Goodwill Chair Makeover

My husband and I scored 2 old chairs from Goodwill for just $4 each a few days ago and over the weekend we gave them makeovers! It was so easy and it was our first chair makeover!

First we took off the seat cushion. My husband unscrewed it from underneath and it came right off! The fabric was stapled on so I just pulled it right off. That left a piece of foam and wood. I lay those aside.

We did the same with the back cushion (or whatever you call it!) and it was harder to get off due to a bazillion staples! So my hubby had to use a knife to pry the staples apart and then use pliers to pull them out. Bless his heart! He definitely loves me because as hard as it was he didn't complain! That cushion was just a piece of foam wrapped inside of fabric. So I layed that to the side.

My husband sanded and painted the chairs while I worked on the cushions. Goes a lot quicker when you are a team! I lay out my fabric on the floor then laid down my foam cushion and then put the wood piece on top of it and cut my fabric about 4 inches all the way around in the same shape as the foam and wood.

Next I pulled tightly and stapled all the way around which was super easy and quick! The corners are a little tricky but you just have to work with it until it looks okay.

With the other cushion I took the foam piece, wrapped fabric around it like a present and just hot glued the fabric onto the back.

After the chairs were dry (took about 2 coats of regular flat black paint and 1 coat of gloss spray because thats what we already had laying around the house) I hot glued the back cushion onto the chair to hold it in place, while I stapled it all the way around. I then added a piece of lace flower rosette ribbon I bought from Walmart.

The final step was laying the seat cushion down and screwing it back in place! That's it!

So easy and I think they turned out great! My husband and I are thrilled with them! What do you think? I wish I would have taken more pictures but I always get excited and forget. :)
